Sunday Scripture Sharing - Family Devotional #8

Today's devotional is best used when springtime begins in your area. I do apologize to all of you who are still snow-covered, but where we live in Texas, the flowers are beginning to bloom and trees are getting new leaves. So, if it is still winter in your neck of the woods you may want to wait a few more weeks before doing this devotional.

Today's Topic is:

God makes the plants, sun, and seasons.

Introduction
What is spring? (answer a season after winter, before summer; a time when leaves grow back on trees, flowers bloom and it gets warmer outside) Who makes the tree, sun, and flowers? (God) Who makes it turn from winter to spring? (God)

Activity
Go on a family nature walk. Give each child a bucket or basket and have them collect anything they want that they find outside on the walk. Point out the signs of spring you see on your walk. When you get back home,
look over the treasures each child found on the walk.

Scripture

Genesis 1:11-18, "Then God said, 'Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees bearing fruit after their kind, with seed in them, on the earth'; and it was so. And the earth brought forth vegetation, plants yielding seed after their kind, and trees bearing fruit, with seed in them, after their kind; and God saw that it was good. And there was evening and there was morning, a third day. Then God said, 'Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days and years; and let them be for lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth'; and it was so. And God made the two great lights, the greater light to govern the day, and the lesser light to govern the night; He made the stars also. And God placed them in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth, and to govern the day and the night, and to separate the light from the darkness; and God saw that it was good."

Discussion
God made the leaves, flowers, trees, sun, dirt, and rocks we saw on our walk! He even made spring! Spring is a special season when we can see new life all around us in nature as we watch trees that were dead looking get full of beautiful green leaves, and watch flowers bloom. This can remind us of the new life we have in Jesus!

Prayer
Dear God, thank you for all the beautiful things we saw on our walk. Thank you for spring and help it to remind us that we have new life in Jesus. Amen.
