Yes, please give me cleanliness for Mother's Day!

Overheard at the breakfast table this week:

the 5 year old to his 3 year old sister: "You're loud!"

the 3 year old:  "No!  I'm not loud, I'm (insert her name here)!"

Well, we've only watched a couple shows and still all love it!  But, my husband also had the brilliant idea of ordering Brady Bunch via Netflix!  It came last week and we haven't had time to watch, yet.  How out of control is that?!!  Can't wait to introduce my kids to Marcia, Jan, Cindy, Greg, Peter, and Bobby!  How weird are my kids going to be -- they have no idea about any modern-day shows on TV right now (and I intend to keep it that way for as long as possible), they are going to be talking to their friends at school about Little House and Brady Bunch!

I made these granola power balls yesterday and they are so good!  Really easy and healthy with flax seed and oats!  I used Sunbutter (made from sunflower seeds) instead of peanut butter because we have a child with a peanut allergy.

Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there!

My 6 year old daughter already gave me the best gift -- coupons for her to clean any room I want!  She gave me 3 coupons and said I could use each one 3 times -- awesome!!  And as an aside, that particular child is my best cleaner, she totally gets my organizational systems and actually puts things away where they go, unlike her brothers who think nothing about cramming things under the bed and calling the room "clean", so her cleaning services are worth GOLD!

Mommy's Idea

  1. A clean room sounds like the perfect Mother's Day gift to me!
Love the idea of the kids watching Brady Bunch and Little House. A few years ago mine got hooked on the classic Looney Tunes and Tom and Jerry, like the 1940s/50s era versions. I loved it! They still cackle over those and the original Little Rascals series.

  2. Okay, I get Little House (though it was never my fav but Michael Landon was Americas best dad) but the Brady Bunch? Marcia, Marcia, Marcia.

A weird but true face to watch for on the Brady Bunch. Though you see the bathroom, you never see the toilet in the entire series.

  3. Nice Mother's Day gift!

At the risk of sounding like a busybody. I wanted to ask if they watch
shows that include black people too? Maybe "The facts of Life?" I can't
remember if that show is age appropriate or, not?

The reason I even bring it up, I have three children. (grown)

My oldest child was blessed with some of my recessed genes. Thus he was
born with fair skin, red hair, and, blue eyes. The rest of the family has dark hair, olive skin, and, brown eyes. This was very hard on my son. He
hated his looks. He was/is handsome. But, he felt like he didn't belong.
Too, other classmates always pointed this out to him. He cried about it
when he was young. He also pleaded for me to dye his hair.(I never did)
I tried to find ways to make him feel good about his looks. It never
worked. As an adult he is covered in tattoos. He said he hates his white
skin and, wants to cover it up. Ugh.

Anyway, you may have a plan to help the 3 year old. I don't know. I just
wanted to share our families experience.

Thank you for sharing your experience, Betty! Such a good point! And yes we have Cosby Show plans in our future! Honestly we don't watch much TV but when we do I at least want there to be positive lessons involved.

  4. I think your kids will be very SMART indeed to be acquainted with those old wonderful shows! And they'll have some grateful OLD teachers (like me) who will be THRILLED when your kids are the only ones that "get" their references to BB and LHOTP!!!!

    It's all good!
