Sunday Scripture Sharing - Family Devotional #6

Today's Topic is:

Be Kind

Introduction
What does it mean to be kind? (Help kids answer nice) How do you feel when someone says something kind to you? (Hopefully kids answer "good") What is something kind you could say to someone else? (let them kids answers and create some of your own to add) Do you think that it makes people happy when you say kind things to them? How could we help each other remember to say kind things?

Activity
Cut a slit in the top of the shoe box, then decorate it with paper, stickers, drawings, stamps, cut-outs, ribbon, etc. Let the kids take the lead in decorating and have all kids contribute. Then have everyone in the family write down one nice thing about the other members of the family (you may have to write for preschool kids, but let them draw on the paper and tell you what to say). Put each slip of paper in the box and encourage the kids to put more nice things about other people in the box throughout the week. On Valentines Day, open the box with the whole family and read each piece of paper.

Scripture

Ephesians 4:32, "Be kind to one another"

Discussion
The Bible tells us to "be kind to one another", but we don't always do that. In fact, sometimes it is easier to think of unkind things to say, rather than kind things. But if we try to think of kind things and ask for God's help, I bet we will get better at thinking of and saying nice things. Let's practice this week by filling this box with nice things about the other people in our family. Then won't it be so fun to read all the papers at the end of the week? When we are kind to other people it makes them feel good and it makes God happy, too!

Prayer
Dear God, help us to be kind. Remind us to use this box this week to say nice things about the other people in our family. Amen
