We are THAT Family, too!

I can totally relate to Kristin's blog name We are THAT Family. Everyone knows a family that they consider THAT family, but how do you know when you have become THAT family?

The photo above of my kids during an regular errand to Target really says
a thousand words about being THAT family. To me you are THAT family when you attract attention while just going about your daily life, meaning people point and laugh! To further clarify this concept of THAT family I've created a list:

13 Signs you may be THAT Family:

1. When your children regularly go places with their shoes on the wrong feet.

2. When you carry around a potty in your car, and it gets used at least once a week!

3. When you sit down at a restaurant and people sitting around you request a new table!

4. When you host a birthday party at your home and your husband stands on the roof and hurls foil ball “meteors” down at all the children!

5. When you have to say things like, “We don’t take pictures of people naked.” Or “It is never okay to wipe snot on your sister!” or “Stop licking the salt shaker!” and mean them with all seriousness.

6. When someone tells you that your child just ate something off the floor/ground and you are not at all bothered!

7. When one of your children throws such a bad fit outside school one day that he has to be carried into his kindergarten class by the janitor!

8. When a successful outing consists of leaving home with all of your children and returning with all of your children!

9. When you take your car to the car wash and it takes them 30 minutes to vacuum it out!

10. When your child tells you to, “Come see something really awesome!” and you are filled with fear and dread as you follow her up the stairs.

11. When you drop your child off at the church nursery and instead of praying that he doesn’t cry while you are gone, you pray that he does not injure any of the other children!

12. When you consider handing out earplugs to visitors who come to your home, because the noise? It can be deafening!

13. When you know without a doubt the only thing good about your family is Jesus!

You may have guessed it, but my family scored 13 out of 13! Now maybe Kristin will induct me into her THAT Family Tree Society, except I have to find the time to email her about it!

We're not the only ones, are we? Please tell me you are THAT family, too!

  1. Yes, we are THAT family too. With six children, my shopping cart would have all the children in one cart, hanging onto the cart full of groceries. We always made a train - making it "fun" for them to go shopping. We had the potty in the van too (especially since Dad would drive from Indiana to Florida without stopping (only for gas). No potty breaks. You are a great writer - I enjoy reading your blog.

  7. No 4 sounds like fun to me.
No 9 made me smile because I went on a mission trip last year and they used to joke that it was a successful trip if 90% came back.

  8. I can relate to alot of these. The one about the kids picking things up off the floor and eating it and not being bothered had me chuckling. Our 19 month old grandson was eating a cookie and dropped part of it. He and the dog actually fought over it and Nolan won! He did share, though. And fuzz. I think he has a fuzz deficiency in his body. I keep the floor vaccuumed when I know they coming and still he manages to find a piece. In his mouth it goes. We've pretty much stopped jumping up and running now...We just shake our heads and wonder...yes, we are that family!

  12. This brought back memories of when my girls were small. One used to hide Cheetos under her play kitchen and pull out one every now and then for a snack. We're all THAT family!

  15. Oh my! That was me and my three grocery shopping just the other day!!! One in the seat, one in the basket and one underneath. The one in the basket would usually climb in and out or try to 'make room' with her brother underneath! Too funny!

  16. Oh yes, we are definately one of those families. It takes us 2 carts to go shopping anywhere. I cart full of toddlers usually followed by a cart full of groceries. lol.
And we frequently have people tell us at restaurants (not that we go out that much anymore) with *amazement* "you're children behaved so well. You have a great family!"
and the only reason I know their saying this is because they were dreading us coming to sit next to them, worrying we're going to spoil their dinner. lol. ;)

  19. We've been THAT family too many times to count! 4 kids under 6, then all teenagers at the same time, now college & beyond (most of them). You do survive, & it gets funny again.

  24. I actually had someone count my children coming in behind me to the grocery store one day. I was also about 8 months pregnant. I just nodded at him and said, "Yes, they're all mine." and kept walking. After the youngest was born, we went something like this:

I would have the baby in the sling. The next one in the seat of the cart. The other on the end of the cart. The other holding onto the side of the cart and the oldest helping me to keep them all in place!
