Over-loved?

Is it possible to be loved too much?

Perhaps if you are a blanket.

Meet "Blankie" one of 2 that my daughter has slept with every night since she was a baby (and carried with her everywhere from about age one and a half to three)!

"Blankie" is for bedtime only now, and good thing because Blankie?

You've seen better days!

In your glory days you were a bright pink waffle weave blanket!

But maybe for a blankie these are the glory days when you've become the height of extreme softness by countless trips through the wash and are cuddled every night by a little girl who will except no substitutes for her beloved "Blankie!"

Who knows, maybe some scrap of you will survive to go off with her to college!

  1. Oh I can see my son loving his blanket this much too... he freaks when its in the washer let alone not by his side every minute, its funny how they can get attached to something.

  2. We have a friend who carried a piece of her beloved childhood blankie in her bouquet when she got married. Our 9yo has a blanket his Great Grandmother knitted for him, that he has virtually reduced to a holey mess by pulling and picking at the strings, but he wouldn't dream of parting with "red and yellow blankie." And I wouldn't dream of asking him to!

  4. You don't know me, but I found your blog through another. I live amidst chaos myself, with a husband, 4 kids, a dog and a cat. I just had to comment and say this reminds me of my younger sister SO much. She had a light blue silk pillowcase that she carried. Recently she moved and I was helping her, and we FOUND her "silkie". It was tattered and torn, faded, and had split into pieces a few times and Mom had TIED it back together at the ripped points. LOL!! This just reminded me of that. So sweet. I enjoy your posts! :)

  7. My mum made me one when I was born. It was green and had ducks on it, and even a little pouch that one duck could come out of. I carried it around until it was MUCh worse than that. Actually I slept with it until I was 25 years old haha. I just loved that blanket. But it got to the point where the seems around the border was the ONLY thing left so after a quarter of a century I had to toss it :p

  9. Oh I lOVE this! It is so meaningful to me because I'm sending my baby off to college in two months, and along with her will most undoubtedly be the rag remnant that we used to call her "baby". So, you see, it really IS possible that she will keep a remnant to cherish.

Found you at Tuesday's Unwrapped and so glad that I did.

  10. Am stopping by from Tuesdays Unwrapped. Enjoyed your post! Instead of a blankie, my daughter (now 17) had a soft baby doll which reached its glory days as well. She hasn't slept with it for years, but still keeps it with her in her room.

  11. How sweet! My sister had a blankie that she loved to pieces. She even took a piece with her to college. No joke!

  12. Yep, by the time she leaves, it'll be just a wee bit of fabric!

  13. You should cut off a small piece and save it, I bet she would love that when she's older.

  15. Oh goodness. Mine was called "blankie" too and I slept with it til I was a teenager. Maybe a little longer than that if I am truthful. It is just shreds of soft yarn now, but I still have it in a box. I would hate when my mom would wash it because it didn't "smell" the same. Stopping by or wordless Wednesday and following. Please stop by when you can and visit me.

  17. To be loved like a blankie huh? To be searched high and low for, to take no substitutions for, to be loved with all the wear and tear of life, which hopefully softens us and makes us all the more loveable.
