Perhaps if I walked a mile in his shoes I'd understand why, oh why, my husband insists on keeping these shoes!!
I did a massive cleaning out of my side of the closet complete with getting rid of 3 bags of stuff, thoroughly vacuuming/cleaning the floor, baseboards, and shelves. And I couldn't help noticing these shoes completely caked in dust, way back under some hanging clothes on my husband's side of the closet.
Although I was not cleaning out his stuff, to be helpful I drug the shoes out, and later said to my husband, "Since these were so coated in dust that I actually vacuumed a thick layer of dust out of them, I'm assuming you want to get rid of them."
His answer?
"Those are my favorite shoes!"
Me: "But you obviously have not worn them in ages! And judging by how they look you really shouldn't be wearing them!"
Him: "I wore those shoes the whole time I was away at business school (allow me to interject that this was 12 years ago). They are great shoes; I'm never getting rid of them!"
Now you know the uphill battle I'm fighting to get organized around here!
Sentimental attachment to shoes!
Keepsake shoes!
Pack rattery at its finest!

It's kind of endearing! Maybe he has fond memories of the steps he walked in those shoes. However, I too, would be inclined to convince him it might time to part ways!
ReplyDeleteMy hubby has a shirt like that! He will not part with it holes and all! Happy WW :)
ReplyDeleteLOL...maybe they will look better after a coat of shoe polish?
ReplyDeleteLOL! My husband has t-shirts that he won't part with. :)
ReplyDeleteHappy WW!
Heh. Sounds like EVERYONE I live with. I throw things out when they aren't home and then claim dumb. It works...most of the time. :)
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like my dad. I think it is a man thing. :)
ReplyDeleteI was trying to help my husbands grandfather clean out his closet. I found some shoes he hasn't worn in 40 years. He would NOT part with them. Cuz they were still good shoes. :)
ReplyDeleteI have a pair of shoes like that! (not mens shoes, but you know what I mean...)
ReplyDeleteHappy WW!
You need to sit him down, with a big bowl of popcorn, or ice cream : ) and make him watch that new show about Hoarders. I watched it last night and I threw out a million things today : ) Great post!
ReplyDeletePack rattery, that's funny! Next time you unearth a "treasure" like that, perhaps a mention of your find should only be made on the blog, not to your husband.
ReplyDeleteMany conversations sound like that with my husband as well. Happy WW!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like my husband. He definitely has a few shirts that he hasn't been able to fit into since HS but he insists on keeping them!
ReplyDeleteOh, No! It might've been more helpful to just have thrown them out! Those shoes are FINISHED!
ReplyDeleteOH my word your living with my husband!
ReplyDeleteRecently I refused to put any of his clothes away until he gets rid of some. Yup, you guessed it there is a pile 3 feet high (folded) but not put away clothes. It doesn't bother me cause it is hidden from view.
I should send you a pic of my garage to make you feel better..lol.
My Allen has a pair of shoes very similar to those that used to be nice... a long time ago. They were so comfortable that when they were too ratty to wear in public they became his favorite work around the house, in the yard and everywhere else shoes. They have mud, paint, concrete, caulk, layers of dust and only the good Lord knows what else...and yet they sit by our back door. Go figure. Who am I to argue?
ReplyDeleteOMWORD. I should go get out all Grizzly's keepsake jackets, blankets, t-shirts, and yes - shoes, too. What the HECK?! He even has a spider web covered keepsake motorized trail bike that nobody but a spider would dare ride on. But don't let him hear you say you might get rid of it. If he even SEES me near his side of the closet, he's goin' through the bags. I feel your PAIN!
ReplyDeleteSame at our house! I think he has at least 10 times the amount of clothes that I do. One day he was cleaning out his truck and I counted 15 coats! Yes that is correct - fifteen coats in his truck, 15 coats that he drives around with all year long. I asked what he needed all of the for and he literally had an answer for every single one of them. ARRRGGG But at least they are in his truck and not in the house - well because there is no room for them in his closet that is so overpacked and overflowing he can barely shut the door! I stay out of there, too dangerous!
ReplyDeleteCute post!!! I'm kinda particular about some of my shoes, too =)
ReplyDeleteSimple solution: clean them up, polish, and hide all his other shoes until these are completely worn out. Seeing as this was 12 years ago, I am betting they won't even fit him anymore. By day 2 he will be complaining and ready to get rid of them.
