Inside Shoes and Outside Shoes

Want to know what works to help me keep my house cleaner?

Inside shoes and outside shoes.

Here's the issue, I have hard floor in a large portion of my house and I can't stand to walk barefoot on it for long because, well, I have 3 small kids and 1 dog so the grit? Is plentiful! And I hate that feeling of something stuck on my feet!

I know, I know, I could sweep and mop.

But an easier solution is to just wear shoes in the house!

However, if I do actually sweep and mop then I don't want to track anything in. And did I mention my kitchen tile floor is white? Yep, you heard right, white! A previous home owner's gift to me!

And so the inside shoes/outside shoes concept was born.

It's pretty simple, really. I have a pair of Crocs (super comfy!) I wear only in the house. If I go outside for any reason, even if it is just to get something out of the car, I change into "outside shoes"! And whenever I come in the house I change into my "inside shoes".

It works great!

The kids are trained to take off their shoes when they come in and the grit on their feet doesn't seem to bother them!

Now, if I could just get my husband on-board. I can't tell you how many times I've explained the inside shoes/outside shoes concept to him (I'll pause here so you have time to wish you lived with me or say "Bless his heart for putting up with her!", either way, take your time!), but he forgets and wears his inside shoes outside!

Oh, and the dog! I need to get her some outside shoes so she'll stop tracking the muddy paw prints in!

  1. This is most definitely a wonderful tip! We keep a basket by the door going out into our garage. For that door, I'm good. My problem is all of the other entrances. YIKES!

  2. That is SUCH a great idea! I kind of have a thing about wearing shoes inside the house...I just can't stand the thought of all that gunk on my floor where I sit, my baby crawls, we all lounge... We definitely need to adopt the "inside shoes" concept!

  3. I wish we all had inside and outside shoes. But with 9 of us that would be a boatload of shoes waiting at the door. Oh, wait those shoes are there...not where they belong! I really do love this idea!

  4. I don't have inside and outside shoes, but I do love to wear my flip flops inside the house (and outside). :0)

  5. Let me know if you think of a solution for the dog tracks. I could use some help in that area. :)

  6. Oh, yes! I'm a croc lover, too. We do the inside either socks or crocs. :D

    Have a great day!

  7. Me too! Gotta have my inside shoes. The kids? Not so much. And the dogs? They simply refuse. I have apparently allowed rebellion to blossom in my home!

  8. Sigh. I wish shoes were the reason my house was never clean! LOL.

  9. Ok, I really DO LOVE THIS. I was just telling my hubby last night that even tho the kids need to go outside each day, I hate sending them out to play when it's muddy because they get their shoes muddy and they track it in. Then they tell me later when we need to go somewhere that they can't find any clean shoes! Inside shoes, outside shoes and play outside shoes sounds good - don't you think?;)

  10. We have the same rule in our house. We also have the play shoes and going out shoe rule. That means there is always a pile of shoes by the doors in our house and on the porch but well worth it!

    Hugs,

  11. Training kids and dogs is much easier than training husbands. :-)
